Managing Partner, Breakaway Communications/San Francisco
Barb is a 30-year veteran of public relations, marketing and journalism who has spent the bulk of her career educating others about cutting-edge visual communications products and services. She currently is a managing partner at Breakaway Communications, a leading technology PR firm, where she manages strategic communications for clients in a variety of sectors including traditional and 360-degree imaging, embedded automotive software for self-driving cars, and document-imaging software and services for enterprises. Barb currently leads the PR team for Ricoh Imaging Americas, and she and her Breakaway team have provided strategic PR services to numerous imaging-based ventures including iON Cameras, the TV of Tomorrow Show, InVisage, Immersive Media and ArcSoft.
Barb previously spent more than a decade with TSI Communications and its parent agency, Golin/Harris International, where she managed communications programs for Sony Electronics for over eight years. She also developed and guided significant outreach campaigns for leading brands such as IBM, HP, Intel and Ricoh, as well as emerging technology ventures such as 8×8, Digimarc and PacketVideo.
Barb started her career as a journalist specializing in photo-video and consumer electronics as an editor at publications including Popular Photography and Industrial Photography. She was founding editor of the first magazine devoted to industrial digital imaging, Advanced Imaging. Barb later served as product/training manager for Ricoh Corporation’s Consumer Products Group. She holds a B.A. in journalism/political science from Rutgers University, with an undergraduate fellowship at the Eagleton Institute of Politics. She is a frequent guest lecturer to marketing and PR students at Santa Clara University.
